Keeping your domain contact details up to date is important for staying compliant with registry requirements and ensuring you receive important notifications about your domain. This guide shows you how to update contact information for any domain registered with DomainsFoundry.

Steps to Update Your Domain Contact Details

  1. Log in to the DomainsFoundry Dashboard.
  2. Click Domains > My Domains.
  3. Click the domain you wish to manage.
  4. From the menu, click Contact Information.
  5. Update your domain’s contact information.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Your domain contact details are updated immediately.

When Will My Changes Appear in WHOIS?

Your changes are applied to your domain straight away. However, most public WHOIS search websites cache results, so it may take a few days for the changes to appear in their databases.

Verification Required for .com, .net, .org and gTLD Domains

When you update contact details for .com, .net, .org, or other gTLD domains, ICANN (the domain registry) requires verification to prevent unauthorised changes. This is part of the ICANN Transfer Policy.

You’ll be shown two verification options in DomainsFoundry Dashboard.

Option 1: Simple Verification (Recommended)

  • An email is sent to the new registrant to approve the changes.
  • The new registrant must approve before the update is submitted to the registry.
  • A 60-day transfer lock is applied to the domain for security.

Option 2: Dual Approval

  • Emails are sent to both the new registrant and current registrant.
  • Both parties must approve before the change is submitted.
  • If the email address hasn’t changed, the current registrant receives both emails.
  • No 60-day transfer lock is applied.

What Happens After I Submit Changes?

You’ll receive an email with the subject:
Change of Registrant request for example-domain.com – New Registrant. Action Required.

This email is sent from do_not_reply@myorderbox.com and contains a link to approve or decline the request.

  • With Option 1, only the new registrant receives an email.
  • With Option 2, both the new and current registrant receive separate emails.

To complete the change, click the link in the email and approve the request.

Once all required approvals are received, the change is submitted to the registry. Both the new and previous registrant will then receive a confirmation email when the update is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my domain’s registered email address doesn’t change?
The verification process remains the same. You’ll receive two emails at the same address, and both must be approved.

I don’t have access to the old registrant email address. What should I do?
Use Option 1 (Simple Verification) to complete the update without needing access to the old email address.

I have DomainsFoundry WHOIS Privacy Protection active. Do I need to do anything?
No. With WHOIS Privacy Protection enabled, DomainsFoundry acts as a Designated Agent and approves registrant changes on your behalf. You won’t receive verification emails.

How long does the verification process take?
Once you approve the verification email, the change is usually processed within a day. However, if you’re using Option 2 (Dual Approval), the process won’t complete until both parties have approved.

What happens if I don’t approve the verification email?
If the verification email isn’t approved within 15 days, the contact update request will expire and your domain’s contact details will remain unchanged. You’ll need to submit a new update if you still want to make changes.

Can I cancel the 60-day transfer lock that’s applied with Option 1?
No. The 60-day transfer lock is an ICANN requirement and cannot be removed early. This lock prevents unauthorised domain transfers and helps protect your domain.

Will updating my contact details affect my website or email services?
No. Changing your domain’s contact details only updates the registration information. Your website, email, and other services will continue to work normally.

Do I need to verify contact changes for .uk domains?
No. The ICANN verification process only applies to .com, .net, .org, and other gTLD domains. Updates to .uk domain contact details are processed immediately without additional verification.

I didn’t receive the verification email. What should I do?
Check your spam or junk folder for emails from do_not_reply@myorderbox.com. If you still can’t find it, contact DomainsFoundry support and we can resend the verification email.
