WordPress 4.9.2 released with security and maintenance fixes

WordPress 4.9.2, a new security and maintenance release for the hugely popular CMS used to build websites and blogs is now available with all DomainsFoundry web hosting packages.

Updates have also been released for old versions all the way back to WordPress 3.7. If you’re running a website which is built using WordPress then we strongly recommend update your websites as this release has important security fixes which help keep your website safe and secure.

How do I update?

If you have automatic updates enabled on your DomainsFoundry web hosting package then the good news is it’s very likely your WordPress websites have already updated to the new version already.

Manually updating WordPress is very easy. Just log in to your WordPress Dashboard, click Updates > Update Now. Our web hosting packages include daily backups already, but we always recommend making another quick backup using the cPanel backup wizard before making changes to your site.

You can install a new copy of WordPress 4.9.2 in just 1-click with DomainsFoundry App Installer, included free with all our web hosting packages. Simply login to your DomainsFoundry Dashboard and then follow the steps for How to Install WordPress from our support knowledge base.

What’s new in WordPress 4.9.2?

A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability in MediaElement has been fixed as well as 21 other bugs. According to WordPress’ release notes the release fixes the following:

  • An XSS vulnerability was discovered in the Flash fallback files in MediaElement, a library that is included with WordPress. Because the Flash files are no longer needed for most use cases, they have been removed from WordPress.
  • JavaScript errors that prevented saving posts in Firefox have been fixed.
  • is The previous taxonomy-agnostic behaviour of get_category_link() and category_description() was restored.
  • Switching themes will now attempt to restore previous widget assignments, even when there are no sidebars to map.
