Check your email settings

Double check and re-enter your email account password, username, incoming and outgoing servers. 

Are you running an antivirus application?

If you’ve got an antivirus application installed, disable it and try checking your email again. Antivirus applications usually load their own e-mail scanning feature which can interfere with  Outlook or Outlook Express.

Antivirus software that has been known to cause this problem includes products by the following vendors

Is your firewall blocking a port?

If you are running a firewall on your computer it can sometimes cause this issue. Temporarily disable your firewall and check your e-mail again to see if it resolves the error. If it does, check the settings of your firewall to ensure that it is not blocking your email access.

Is your ISP blocking a port?

Sometimes ISPs block ports to force you to use their own email services. Luckily we provide alternative ports our email services over a range of ports for

OUTLOOK EXPRESS:

Open Outlook Express, click Tools > Accounts. Then click the ‘Mail’ tab and double click on your account. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab and then change the ‘Incoming Mail server’ from 110 to 111 .Click Ok and follow prompts to return to Outlook.

Open Outlook, click Tools > Email Accounts. Then click ‘View or change existing e-mail accounts’. Double click on your account. Click the ‘More Settings…’ button in the lower-right of the window. A new window will open titled, Internet E-mail Settings’. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab and then change the ‘Incoming server’ from 110 to 111. Click OK and follow prompts to return to Outlook.

If the above works, it means that your ISP is blocking access to port 110. They do this to try and force you to use their services.

Recreate your email account in Outlook

Outlook and Outlook Express are known to corrupt the account configuration files. To recreate your account follow the steps in our Knowledgebase.
