Apple CEO Tim Cook introduces the new iPad in California.

Apple have announced ‘The New iPad’ at their media event in California, USA. As expected, the New iPad comes with a sharper, high-definition screen and powerful new A5x dual-core processor.

The new iPad will start at £399 and go on sale on March 16th in UK. The previous iPad 2 will be reduced in price, starting at £329.

But have Apple done enough to tempt you to buy one? Or upgrade your old iPad?

New iPad features

So what’s new about the new Apple iPad 3, sorry “New iPad”?

‘Retina’ Screen
2048 x 1536 resolution with 3.1 million pixels. This means that the new iPad has a better than 1080p display and according to Apple the new screen is “gorgeous”. If it’s anything like the Apple iPhone 4 and Apple iPhone 4S screens it should indeed be impressive!

Quad-core Graphics
Powered by Apple’s new A5X processor the New iPad features the most powerful graphics available on any iDevice ever.

New 5MP rear camera
Features HD video recording in 1080p so you’ll be able to take some great videos with your new iPad – Something that was missing from the iPad 2.

4G LTE connectivity
If you’re on the go you’ll be really happy to hear that the new iPad supports 4G LTE. The next generation of mobile internet which is reported to be far faster than the current 3G available.

At the time or writing 4G still being tested here in the UK, it’s debatable how much of a benefit this feature will really be. Maybe the Apple iPad will spur the UK mobile networks to bring us 4G sooner rather than later?

Availability

You’ll be able to buy your new, New iPad from March 16th in the UK, United States, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan.

What do you think?

Are the new features enough to justify upgrading your iPad 2? Have Apple finally made an iPad worth buying? Are you happy with your current iPad?.

Are you totally unimpressed? There’s still no Flash. The camera could be better and who really needs the high-def screen? Is this just more Apple marketing hype? Is the device just another expensive toy for Apple fans? Do you think Android offers more than Apple?
